Understanding Colossians 1:9
Understanding Colossians 1:9 which says, “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;”
And to desire that you might be filled with the knowledge of his will.
To DESIRE i.e to EPITHUMIA….a greek word which means “To have an eagerness, a passionate longing or feeling for something.”
- I am sure You are transform by the information you get through me, I am also sure you can be part of our daily updates. why not leave your email behind let me keep you informed with information, jobs and inspire you always.
But here, to passionately long that you might be filled. There’re 3-key words there which we should look into. They’re ‘MIGHT, BE, and FILLED.’ The Apostle used that word Might, not as trying to show humility of speech or a term of Probability, but that word in Greek is called EIMI meaning Can, Must, Should and Would.
So, they were praying for the Colossian Church as a possibility and a requirement for their spirits to BE i.e Appear truly FILLED, which means FULL. Full of what? For them to be full with the KNOWINGS of God’s Will of both his plans for the Church and for them individually. Praise the Lord. Then he prays for them to be filled “In all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” This kind of Wisdom deals on two parts.
The first is to be filled in all divine wisdom and spiritual understanding. I.e he wants you to receive the knowledge of God in a kind of wisdom of the supernatural and higher powers of the kingdom of God and of the Spirit of God which includes the working (i.e practicing) of spiritual truths. The second part has to do with the practical aspect of intelligence and skill where you use discretion in relating with humans and applying your gifts and abilities to events and situations.
This is why you have to be filled with the knowledge of God’s Word. It isn’t a waste of knowledge to know the Bible or to know the things of God, because His Word is the foundation to all effectiveness in life, both spiritually, physically, economically, financially and in relating with men. Amen.
